Philanthropy and Charitable Giving

Many people ask what is philanthropy in the context of charitable giving. In its most basic sense, the center of philanthropy is a love of the human race. To begin a career in philanthropy, a person will need to have a thorough understanding and commitment to the concept. There are many notable groups, such as the Rockefeller Foundation and the Atlantic Philanthropies, that run global operations and have a large workforce with potential careers in philanthropy.

While the majority of people that participate in philanthropy tend to be quiet about their contributions to a better society, others are so large that it is impossible not to notice. The biggest known philanthropy gift, in terms of money, was made by Warren Buffett. At one time considered to be the richest man in the world, Buffett gave 31 billion dollars to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has the highest amount of funding of any of the worldwide philanthropy organizations. This money is used for many different projects and works conducted by the foundation.
