Leadership is a very desired trait among companies that are looking for valuable employees. The simple definition of a person that displays leadership skills is one that is able to get positive contribution towards a shared task or goal. The identification of what makes a person a leader has been studied since ancient Greek times and there are a library of books written about management and leadership. While some people are born with leadership qualities, it is possible to improve leadership skills by using various forms of management training.

One of the most popular management and leadership styles is autocratic. This means that the leader controls all of the decisions and is seen as having more power than subordinates. In modern times, democratic and laissez-faire leadership has seen an increase as this style allows subordinates to feel more involved in the decision making process and thereby feel ownership of projects.
Many of the texts that have been written on leadership skills as part of a leadership education have found that there are some natural traits that leaders have. Intelligence, extroversion, and openness are all part of good leaders. In a management training situation, a person will need to discover their own personal skills and a style of leadership that plays to the advantage of those skills. An example would be a person who is more timid will need to tailor their leadership to be more democratic and involve other people. Many management and leadership instructional materials teach a person how to identify these skills and how best to implement them in leadership situations.
